32-bit disk driver support is provided in Windows only for IDE drives
which are compatible at the register-level with some Western Digital IDE
adapter -- which most IDE adapters are. SCSI adapters aren't too
compatible for obvious reasons.
Some SCSI adapters now provide 32-bit support, although they are in the
minority.
Great, eh? Go out and buy a screaming SCSI VLB controller only to find out
that it runs and half the speed it could. VLB should help though. I've
seen tests which show that IDE adapters on the ISA bus are actually
considerably faster than SCSI adapters on ISA bus even thought the SCSI
cards have better transfer rates just because the IDE adapaters are 32-bit
enabled; I'm not sure how VLB factors into the equation though.

Subject: Number of Network Buffers message ??? (trumpet winsock)
Hello,
I am running the trumpet winsock under windows for workgroups 3.11.
I am not running any of the network goodies from WFWs. I have not
been able to make them run. I always get a "not enough memory"
message when I try to run the network goodies. They install fine but
they don't run. (this is not the question, but if you have any idea, it is
welcomed)
Now the question:
When I have the trumpet winsock loaded and I run winqvtnet a terminal
session from winqvtnet it seems to hang. The only common denominator I have
found is that the "number of network buffers" message from the trumpet winsock
windows says are less than what is desired. It says :
"Warning - running with less than recommended
number of network buffers (10 of 16)"
In this case it was 10 of 16, it has been more or less.
Can anyone please tell me what this is all about and maybe give me a hint on
how to get up to the recommended 16 network buffers? I am running a 486
DX2/66 NCR 3300 machine with 16M RAM.
Thanks
Diego.

Try File/New Gopher. You can enter all the data there.
